Subject: Nine-Holer Update and Agenda, etc for Installation Meeting, Wed. Jan. 27 4 pm Dear Nine-Holers, What a ride we’re on this year! We especially appreciate all the goodwill the group has shown in the face of setbacks to playing. Until this year, my golfing shortfalls distracted me from appreciating the consistent gift of our early-morning golf. We look forward to being together for a Zoom call on Wednesday, June 27 at 4 pm. Diane Ciesinski sent the link. And we’re delighted that so many new members are joining our roster! As I shared earlier, we will be able to play on Thursday mornings even under current restrictions. We have 11 precious tee times, from 7:10 to 8:30 at 8-minute intervals. The new flexibility: a member can bring a “guest”, but only from her household. This potentially makes the Women’s Nine-Holers co-ed on Thursday mornings at this time. Stanford still needs to know if you require an electric cart. The Executive Board met to find an equitable solution for this temporary sign-up protocol. We recognize that 17 people had signed up for next week, so we have fewer tee times than would-be golfers. We now have 44 members, an all-time high, and will have to divide the group into two, alternating priority each week. Even though you may have signed up for January 28 and later, we are erasing all the old tee-time sheets, as Stanford is doing, and substituting a new system. Our plan: Members whose last name begins with A-L (there are 22), will be given priority on Week A. The first A priority playing date is this Thursday, January 28. Lynn has graciously reworked the sign-up sheets to allow you to put cart, name and guest name. If the A-L group fills all eleven slots, there is a waiting list. Sign-up for tee times begins Friday morning (in this inaugural week, when you read this message, you can sign up). The A-L group has exclusive priority to sign up until Tuesday morning. The M-Z group is allowed to sign up on Tuesday (Jan. 26 this week) for any open slots or for the waiting list. Good citizen protocol: If you have a tee time and you won’t be able to show up, you must cancel and call/text the next person on the waiting list and Pat. If you are at the later tee times, please play “ready golf”. Our ability to have the 8:30 tee time is contingent on not holding up the first 18-hole players making the turn. The M-Z group has priority in Week B. Sign-up can begin Friday morning, Jan. 29 for play on Feb. 4. The A-L group can sign up beginning Tuesday Feb. 2. Using the example of the 17 people on the original tee-time sheet, 8 were in A-L and 9 were in M-Z, so there would be enough spots for each half on Thursdays. We’ll see how this works. Pat has graciously offered to monitor the mechanics, even reminding us which week is A-L and which M-Z, and we’re all hoping the need is brief. We are keeping the mixers intact for now, hoping that all is better by Feb. 14. Casey will speak promptly at 4 on Wednesday (she’s taking a few minutes from the team practice she’s coaching). I will ask her to address what Stanford is doing to appeal this (and how we can assist). Please respond to Pat and me with other questions for Casey, so we make sure that she covers them. Please direct all Santa Clara County (SCC) questions to Conrad or to SCC. Casey shares our frustration at this arbitrary situation. Re our Installation Meeting, attached are the agenda, the draft minutes from the Oct. 26 meeting and the officers. Please know that we appreciate everyone’s help over the last year and willingness to help in this next year. That cooperation makes the Nine-Holers such a delight to participate in! Warmly, Betsy Thomas and Pat Seawell
